Holy Cross repeat as National Champions; St. John’s GU17 finish 4th - Day 6 at nationals

Oct. 09, 2023

Holy Cross have repeated as national Jubilee Trophy Champions, defeating Quebec 2-0. Holy Cross went undefeated in the tournament with three wins and a tie in the round robin and controlled the women’s final from the opening whistle.

NL’s goals came from Jessie Noseworthy and Emily Bailey. Jane Pope assisted on both goals.  Goalkeeper Shannon Galway registered her fifth clean sheet of the tournament.

Last year, they became the first ever women’s team from Newfoundland and Labrador to win a national Jubilee Trophy Title.  This year, they became the first from the province with back-to-back national championships.

At the U17 tournament in New Brunswick, St. John’s Soccer girls finished fourth after dropping a 5-0 decision to Quebec in the bronze medal match. This improves on NL’s 2022 finish by three places.  The U17 boys, represented by Feildians, dropped their final match 5-1 to PEI. Nathan Osborne had the lone Feildians goal.

Feildians dropped a 7-2 decision to Manitoba in the Challenge Trophy and will finish in 8th place overall. Fieldians goals came from Alex Nunes and Nick Jones.

At the GU15 cup in Waterloo, Ontario, CBS Kirby Group Strikers defeated Manitoba 1-0 to finish 5th overall.

Feildians BU15 defeated New Brunswick 2-0 finishing 10th with a 2-2-1 record.

Well done to all our Newfoundland teams, so proud of how you have represented the province in the last week.  Congratulations to all on some great results.
