Nationals Update

Holy Cross dreamed of national gold, and on Monday they made those dreams come through not once, but twice, on home turf at historic King George V soccer pitch in St. John’s.

The women led things off with a 2-1 victory over 2024 champions CS Trident - Ouest de Quebec.  Teri Murphy was named tournament MVP.  Holy Cross Nutra Holdings had previously won Jubilee Trophy national gold in 2022 and 2023 and had 15 players from those campaigns in the lineup.

The men needed a penalty shootout to best defending champions Gloucester Celtic with the score knotted at 1-1 after regulation time.  It was goalie Thomas Pieroway who secured the win, netting his own to seal the gold medal after an opposing player missed the net. Harry Carter was named tournament MVP.  The last time Holy Cross men won national gold was in 1988.

Challenge Cup: S’Pairs Optical CBS Strikers fell to Port Moody in penalty kicks after the teams ended 2-2 after regulation time. They finish in 8th place overall.

Jubilee Trophy: St. John’s New Victorian Homes battled hard but came up short 0-2 to Banat FC Kitchener to finish the tournament in 6th place.

GU17: Paradise GU17 ended on a high note, smashing New Brunswick 8-0 to claim 5th place overall.

BU17: Feildians fell just short in a tight 2-1 result, wrapping up the tournament in 12th.

BU15: St. John’s lost 0-4 to Moncton to finish in 12th, while PYSA finished 10th after a 2-1 loss to Halifax.

GU15: Mount Pearl finished 12th following a 2-1 loss to Winnipeg and St. John’s finished 9th overall with a 2-1 win over PEI.

Well done to all our teams repping NLSA on the national stage. Keep pushing, the future is bright!
