Starting with its founding decade, l950, the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association has selected its top soccer club and individual players for each ten years.
The top clubs were represented by one team for each decade. The teams are:
Guards of St. John’s were the top soccer club in Newfoundland and Labrador for 1950 to 1959. Guards teams were provincial champions in 1957, 1958 and 1959. The ’59 team was typical of the excellent Guards teams of the 1950s and was comprised of, left to right, first row: Charlie Snook, Gerry Smith; second row: Don Ash, Bob Badcock, Hobie Pike, Rex Smith, Dave Coulter, Cec Jenkins, Doug Chaulk; third Row: coach Bill Jackson, Lloyd Martin, Barry Hollett, Alf Crewe, Fred North, Eugene Garland and Guards AA president Ralph Atwell. Missing are Ray Wilkins, Sterling Hoddinott, Roy “Midge” Jenkins and Don Winsor.
Grand Bank GeeBees were the top soccer club in Newfoundland and Labrador for 1960 to 1969. The GeeBees earned the provincial title for 1960, 1961 and 1962. The 1962 champions were typical of the strong Grand Bank teams of the 1960’s. Its members included, left to right, first row: Max Hollett, John Russell, Clar Brooks, Harold Hollett, Eric Grandy, Malcolm Osmond, Archie White; second row: Burin Peninsula AA president Fred Tessier, Robert Ralph, Eli Lee, William Wells, Alf White, Newman Bartlett, Clar Patten and Al Buffett.
St. Lawrence Laurentians were the top soccer club in Newfoundland and Labrador for 1970 to 1979. The Laurentians emerged as provincial champions for 1971, 1972, 1975, 1976, 1977and 1978. The 1975 and 1977 teams each earned a national silver medal and were typical of the excellent St. Lawrence teams of the decade. Holy Cross of St. John’s was the top soccer club in Newfoundland and Labrador for 1980 to 1989. The club won the provincial championship in 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988 and 1989 and earned a gold and silver medal nationally. The 1988 team was undefeated and unscored upon when it won the Canadian Challenge Cup and senior male championship in Saskatoon in 1988 and added the silver medal in St. John’s in 1989. St. Lawrence Laurentians were the top soccer club in Newfoundland and Labrador for 1990 to 1999. St. Lawrence won the provincial championship in 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 with a national bronze medal in 1999. St. Lawrence Laurentians were the top soccer club in Newfoundland and Labrador for 2000 to 2009. Highlighted by a national silver medal in 2002, championships were won in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
