Adam Mooi appointed Technical Director; Maria Mackey named Manager of Competitions
We’re pleased to announce the successful recruitment of Adam Mooi as NLSA Technical Director, and Maria Mackey as Manager of Competitions. Both had been supporting the NLSA in interim roles.
Well-known as a player, manager and volunteer, Maria grew up within the St. John’s and NLSA programs and has three medals at the national club championships (GU16 silver 2011, Jubilee bronze 2017, Jubilee gold 2023), and played five years for Memorial University, where she was part of the 2014 AUS championship team. She represented NL at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She is also a member of the Memorial University Athletic Honour Society (2019).
Maria has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Memorial University, a postgraduate certificate in Sport and Event Marketing from George Brown College, and a Masters degree in Sports Administration from Boston College. In addition to serving as Interim Manager of Competitions, Maria was also the Events and Community Engagement Coordinator for Red Deer Polytechnic in Alberta.
Adam Mooi joined the NLSA in July 2023 as Technical Performance Coordinator and has served as Interim Technical Director since April 2024.
Adam holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) in Marketing and Human Resources from the University of Manitoba and is a certified “A” License coach and Canada Soccer Learning Facilitator. Prior to coming to Newfoundland and Labrador, Adam helped develop athlete potential through his involvement with high performance programs in Manitoba, British Columbia, and in London, Ontario.
As a player, he was part of Manitoba’s high performance program from ages 14-18 and represented Manitoba at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec. He has had tryouts for the U17 national team and Vancouver Whitecaps, and with the Columbus Crew Academy. He also attended various National Team Futsal camps and was called up to Team Canada in January 2021.
Adam and Maria will report to NLSA Executive Director, Charlie Reid.
“We’re excited to attract and retain two individuals of this calibre,” said Chris Bartlett, NLSA President. “Maria and Adam are two dynamic, highly motivated additions who will help us deliver our vision for soccer excellence in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
