Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association Announces Leadership Restructuring for Enhanced Soccer Excellence

St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

The Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association (NLSA) announces a strategic restructuring of its operational team, aimed at bolstering soccer's quality and performance in the province.

In consultation with current Executive Director/Technical Director Mark Marshall, the NLSA has decided to split this role into two distinct administrative and technical roles and to increase support to soccer competitions by creating a Manager of Competitions role. Those changes align with our goal to deepen our focus on both the operational and technical aspects of soccer development in Newfoundland and Labrador and answers to the needs of the soccer community.

Mark will transition to the position of Technical Director to concentrate more on the technical development side of soccer. In this role, he will drive the advancement of player development, coaching education, and competitive play, leveraging his extensive knowledge and passion for the sport. His expertise will be instrumental in fortifying our province's potential for a strong performance at the upcoming Canada Games. A temporary leadership committee composed of Board members Chris Bartlett, Heather Stamp Nunes, Jonathan Mahoney, and Andrew Costello will manage the duties of Executive Director until an interim Executive Director has been appointed. This ensures a seamless transition and continuity in leadership. The search for a new Executive Director will start soon and will focus on finding an individual who can effectively lead the strategic and administrative facets of the NLSA.

The interim Manager of Competitions, Maria Mackey, will be at the forefront of enhancing soccer experiences across our region. Maria’s responsibilities include overseeing all NLSA competitions, coordinating communication, and actively contributing to the growth and sustainability of soccer in Newfoundland and Labrador. With a focus on quality, efficiency, and community engagement, the Manager of Competitions will play a vital role in advancing our soccer programs.

We are confident that this restructuring will bring renewed vigor and specialized focus to our association, significantly contributing to the enhancement of soccer in Newfoundland and Labrador.
